Throughout his forty-year career, Kaufman worked with well-known collaborators as Moss Hart and Edna Ferber, but also with such literary figures as Alexander Woollcott and Herman J. Mankiwiecz, and such performers as Lynn Fontanne, Jack Benny, and Helen Hayes.
